The poison of contagious, popular public stupidity can, when handled with insight and taken with great care, become a medicine. But as we all know, any ‘medicine’ substituted for food is likely to prove lethal. What we select for attention and promotion becomes the future of our development, not merely an advertisement of our loyalties. When our loyalties are to the artifacts of inhuman processes, we cannot remain human in our relational embodiment, regardless of the physical fact of our humanity. We should not confuse the two. The fact that we still have the same shape does not mean we are human; we are human only to the degree we are willing to pursue, develop, and nurture our finest potentials as living beings on earth and relational beings in nature and cultures.
