Every eye is different, and part of the difference is the purpose. Not what they are seeing.. but why they are looking. I realize that what I may say will seem hyperbolic to some. But they may not share my purpose of seeing. And without that purpose, it will be easy to dismiss what I see, and thus, what I have to say.
Indeed, this is the nature of our modern cultures and their hideously flat substitutes for human communion and communication.
This is what I see.
The creature leading the traffic is involved in a profound statement of natural order and proper hierarchy that almost every human culture and technology opposes, denies, and dismisses. I am not claiming this creature is -making that statement- intentionally, however, it is succeeding regardless of whether we slather it with human ideas or not.
What I see here, is a moment of grace. And teaching. And living memory of place and meaning.
A direct statement from the living heart of nature to the world of human blindness. And, indeed, an invitation. There is, even here, a sign that humans can see something important. That, given the proper conditions, they can take a lesson. And that gives me hope.
Beyond ideas, this brief recording revives a fact we have forgotten, and thus comprises a statement almost too true to be completely admitted into our minds and hearts.
May this silent statement move beyond the image, to the fact. Beyond the meme to the change. Beyond our stubborn blindness… to memory, to insight, and to recollection.
