“So, there’s this aspect of your mind as awareness, that is constantly simulating and examining your ‘location’ in time and space using a mapping sense that acquires character in multiple simultaneous domains that constellate across their orders.

While this is happening, memories are being formed, and they are deeply linked to this process, which is part of why mnemonists commonly ‘take a memory walk’ or ‘create a visual path through images in sequence’ that revive and restore memories while sustaining or even developing them.

When you replace that inward mapping process with machines, you change the structure of your brain, your awareness and mind. The relationship here is like a creature in nature. It is a caching relationship that leverages the unique features of time and place to form a peculiar kind of meta-index. If you throw away that entire context of internal mapping and place by replacing it with machines? There is nowhere to cache. Your memory fails, because its underlying structure has been co-opted, and your intelligence tarts to turn into yak snot.

Worse, you can’t notice any of this because the damage hides itself because it affects what you need to detect it with, and you are busy being hypnotically, almost sexually involved with your devices which have not only replaced your sense of inner mapping and location, but have also become the ‘between’ in nearly every one of your human relationships. And you aren’t even suspicious. In fact, as far as we can tell, you’re celebrating. Wildly.”
