Separate the descriptions and the stuff being examined or discussed. First. Keep them distinct. The overlays of our reference habits are never isomorphic with their referents in the world or experience. They are crude heuristics, and must be recognized as such, over and over again, otherwise we begin to confuse… our descriptions… with what they are supposed to help us to discover, explore, and understand. They are not supposed to replace our intelligence and awareness with abstractions, no matter how compelling or manipulable. Stay with the phenomenon you are examining. Suspend your belief in -anyone’s- description of it. Descriptions are toys, not schematics. If your description specifies the identity of reality or phenomenon that’s the signal that your intelligence just died.
