Hey Facebook, the newsfeed needs channels if we are to remain social. Here’s why:
Joe and Tina are friends. They like to share things. They want to share things. But not everything. Joe doesn’t want to see Tina’s shopping pictures and Tina doesn’t want to hear Joe’s GI stories. But they want to stay friends.
What we have to do is essentially -unfollow- people who post more stuff we don’t want to see, than the stuff we do. And this means we lose opportunities to learn, grow, and be social together. Not because we don’t want to be, because your software is cro-magnon. And don’t tell me that -I- should categorize my feed according to my audience. No. Wrong direction for the development burden. It’s on you. Not us.
So stop -stunting- the medium -you nearly invented-, ok? Give us -categories- in the newsfeed. Not everyone is here for cat pictures and memequotes. And when you make it so we have to be, you’re attacking our intelligence, as well as our incipient social networking capacities.
In the end, this means -lost revenue for you-. You have to fix this. NOW. We outgrew the crappy interface you were born with three months after it was instituted. Stop living in the 1960’s. Please. We play and learn here. Together. You have to help us do that, not punish us for trying.
