“Nature has changed. In 50 years. While the most intelligent species on earth has been attacking everything that moves and most of what doesn’t — necessarily including its own nominal intelligence — the remaining living systems of our world have been catapulted into a breakneck developmental sprint by the clear proximity of extermination. We have had the same effect as an ongoing planetary crisis that continues to grow in momentum and magnitude without sign of limit.

We, too have been changed. Our own pace of technological development continues to accelerate, as the pace of our relational and cognitive development languishes. We are awash in the repercussions of our attack on the environment.

There are so many things that are crucial to understand about this. One of them is simple. Whether or not life on Earth ‘had a purpose’ in any reasonable sense of this language, it does now. Its purpose is to survive our sudden and inexplicable attack of intelligence.

Here is another matter to consider. Since the entire living planet is desperate in a sense, to reveal and correct the catastrophic malfunction of our species, it will lend uncommon aid to those whose mission bears this likeness. What this means is simple: with the right purpose held as true intention, it is possible to attract friends, allies and patrons of kinds previously inconceivable.”
