“Your peripheral intelligence could be understood to represent 99% of your actual accessible intelligence. It is nothing like your models. It spends most of its time busily dreaming, and directing your interest and inner senses. When the remaining 1% is about to get you killed, say, by changing lanes on the freeway into a car that was in your blind spot? This intelligence steps into ‘the ordinary’ realm of awareness like superman, and saves your life. It then disappears, instantly. What usually happens at that point, is that the other aspects of your mind, strongly lateralized to your left brain hemispheres, will begin reacting momentously to this event, claiming credit, grandstanding, laughing, and expressing relief. This effectively attempts to re-create a situation in which the accident is likely to occur again, because now, the central (read: more primitive) intelligence with which you attend basic features of reality has become distracted by its own reactions, creating a crisis in which the silent aspect must again interrupt the 500 things it is doing expertly to keep you from destroying yourself in the next 5 seconds and try to help its idiot brother (who doesn’t believe it exists and takes c credit for its activities) fail to destroy himself and those around him, for the next few minutes until he calms down and returns his proper degree of focus to driving the vehicle.

And in case this isn’t clear, your cultures (and even your subcultures that advertise revolution) are, by and large, exaggerated instances of this framework in other orders of embodiment.”
