It’s as if there’s a science fiction scenario at play where sophisticated aliens have intruded into our minds and taken them over, rendering us into peculiar factories that reproduce and transmit their methods amongst ourselves and to our children. Except, in our case, the ‘aliens’ are actually nothing more than the peculiar features of our recursively ramified relationships with language and knowledge. In effect, we have been co-opted by the shadows of our own representational habits which, in human cultures, act almost like ‘intelligent aliens from space’.
