We sit here complaining about our conditions with the tool that, were we simply willing to learn to use it, could transform our lives and planet overnight. We have been given an unthinkable array of opportunities with social media, and we have, so far, chosen to use them approximately like the walls of public restrooms. But the very tool we are using to complain is the one that could change our planet and our ways of being human together overnight… if only we were interested in its potentials instead of the insipid and familiar roles of the transports of popular media content. This tool is the revolution waiting to happen as its users ideas. So far, their ideas remain those of prisoners and spectators. We must create roles online that are commensurate with our dreams and aspirations, otherwise we will surely be drawn into the familiar roles of disempowered subjects.
