Testing for something analogous to telepathy optimally involves contexts fraught with high degrees of intimacy and interest between focus and target. These phenomenon aren’t arbitrary; they are deeply linked to features of relational context like urgency, desire, hope, wonder, enthusiasm, adoration, curiosity, and interest. Getting people to try to guess cards is like trying to find fish in the desert. You may still find some, but you’d be better off looking in water. Additionally, if you tell us that you will only admit fish from the desert, we are going to have some deep questions about your basic understanding of the phenomenon in question. Purpose matters, and research isn’t really the kind of purpose that tends to evoke the contexts in which telepathy is common.
