The formal structure and context of many modern Western holidays is nonsensical or even offensive. That said, we are free to reply however we may desire, and replying with complaint or critique is certainly insufficient. If we must have such holidays, let us make of them celebrations worthy of our insight, our inspirations, and our lives. And if we wish to abide outside, a choice other than critique… to do or learn or be something far more interesting than a critic… is obviously more appropriate than yelling at the towering historic shadow of the holiday and what it has come to in our modern moment.
