Much of intelligence requires that we see that which is not truly present, and can only become present through us. This is a process of reflection, reverie, emotional intimacy, dreaming, and integration. It is a process that is like storms of invisible art. It happens underneath what we can see and talk about, and it doesn’t care that the shadow of a portion of its function gets the credit. But that shadow will never endow a habitable human culture, mind, or world.
