The most highly evolved creature has this position for a specific reason: they are the evolutionary candidate born to bear the mantle of responsibility for the biosphere. Our species has desecrated this honor, and we attack what we were endowed to protect and nurture. It is not uncommon on worlds with a problem like ours for the primary evolutionary contender to be exterminated. Unfortunately, this usually means that vast portions (if not all) of the evolutionary companions that lifted us to transentience will be exterminated with us… by either our direct activity, our neglect or both.
