Like politicians, some ideas (activated within human persons and groups) attack the infrastructure of human relation and intelligence. As they do not possess the necessary expertise or capacity to govern, they must reduce the the nature of the systems and relationships involved into a delusional representation they can control, because if they do not, they will be recognized and attacked (with the purpose of ejection, reformation or destruction).
These ideas run rampant in human culture, and some have extremely sophisticated strategies for establishing dominance and control -at any cost-. Since, functionally, ‘their lives are at stake’, no gambit is too bold, deadly or dangerous. Even if the entire planet is destroyed… it won’t matter… after all — for these ideas loss of dominance and control is functionally equivalent to death.
Although we encounter them in individuals, these ideas are most prevalent in consensus groups such as religions, political parties and corporations. These ‘bodies of consensus’ work in the same ways the ideas do: by forceful contagion. What used to be ‘magic’ to the indigenous peoples was not discarded by moderns: it was represented and taken within -in place of our humanity-. This ‘contagion’ is what we call advertising.
If we do not recognize and deal proactively with these matters immediately, they will tear the basis of life and intelligence on our world apart.
We face simple choices. We can continue to mimic intelligence at the group level (and develop these capacities in lieu of actual intelligence), while delivering atrocity and rape — or we can recognize these situations and work together to cause our ideas and bodies of consensus to serve us, rather than destroy us.
Do not be deceived by the seeming simplicity of the choice. As groups and a species we have consistently chosen the deadly option now for thousands of years. We are not likely to suddenly begin choosing the latter.
But we must. Now.
