I really have to have people who learn around me. They give the signal, and the signal is this: they may have deeply held intuitions about reality, relation, meaning, intelligence… but they are always learning at such a rate that even those ideas which seem most essential to the ways they see the world… are changing. Constantly. Partly because their inherent curiosity and skepticism become the two snakes of a caduceus whose power exceeds whatever it is directed toward.

This is the nature of learning. It is more powerful and active than any possible remnant of its transits or even organizations of them.

I feel ill at ease with those who know what things, beings, and relations are, do, and are for, for it appears to me that they unknowingly seek to become the human image of their conclusions.

Yet, I am comforted when the local presence of active intelligence is in obvious evidence, and, indeed, if I am troubled (are fish damp?), little else will soothe me.
