Though it can solve certain problems, making a sphere into a circle is not a gain in sophistication. Similarly, science and metaphysical pursuits may have some overlap, but they cannot and should not be collapsed; such a situation would render them both meaningless, and largely useless. There are different ways of knowing at play in the world, and the rush to collapse science and metaphysics comes primarily from the devotees of the latter, who are too often relentless in their desire to acquire the valuable authority that science currently carries and projects. This is not going to happen, and pretending it is happening is … just a new kind of snake oil.
