To think that you are intelligent because you are human is like cavemen thinking they can stand on the moon because it is reflected in the still surface of the water. As long as they do not have to test their theory… it works.

Yet it is my experience that intelligence is amongst the rarest of adaptations, and few indeed are those I have known who have expressed or acquired much more than the wrapper for the treasure inside…

…you see, we’re in a bit of a predicament. And it attacks the stuff we would use to notice it… first… and one of the best ways to accomplish this is by simply telling people ‘you are intelligent’, when this is nothing like the truth.
