What we have with human intelligence is a situation approximate to one where frosting wants us to forget about the cake. In fact, it threatens us directly any time we get anywhere near the idea of the cake, because if we discovered the existence of the cake, it would reveal the frosting’s long and terrible lie (and all of the consequences of enacting that lie)… and thus the fearful frosting maintains its fetishized dominance over the cake and the observers. Most of the time.
Thankfully, we also have experiences like dreaming… where part of the frosting becomes… transparent… and the ‘peculiar flavors’ of the cake more directly emerge to our experience… because a lot of what we are habitually familiar with is really the frosting… which is to say the compelling superficial portion… of both of our intelligence capacities and our minds. Were the cake to be suddenly revealed to our awareness during waking hours… many would find the experience terrifying. But others might be likely to experience… a kind of prodigy… a sudden emergence from the monotony of utility into the polyphony of learning / expression.
