The function of the culture monster is to sell us (at the highest cost) endless models of what we cannot be. All of them are less than what we already are. To sell us such models our actual personhood must be obstructed. The big secret is that what we really are is more shocking, more amazing, and more true than the sum of the stories we’re being sold. Those stories are parasites and they are consuming us, our world, and our future.
