There’s no question that religious fundamentalism has often been deadly and virulent throughout recent human history. But the people who attack it in the name of science are catastrophically myopic about their own branch of deadly stupidity. After all, it wasn’t religion that detonated -2000-+ nuclear bombs (a full nuclear war) over the past 50 years. It wasn’t religion that toxicified -every body and ecosystem on earth- in the past 30 years.
It wasn’t religion that burned down the rainforests, decimated the oceans, built and filled endless prisons, created an irradiated wasteland in the middle-east, infested our natural water supplies with antibiotics and other harmful chemicals, poisoned our families with pharmaceuticals or any of the similar hundreds of apocalyptic and absolutely real catastrophes that emerged directly from our relationship with -science- and -technology-.
Religion wasn’t responsible for Three Mile Island, Chernobyl, or Fukushima. Nothing religion has ever or will ever accomplish could possibly equal the harm we have and continue to suffer from the pursuit of ‘science’ and the many ‘gifts’ that arise from this circle of disciplines and their fatally intimate associations with technology, commerce, war, industry, and political ideologies.
