In our bodies we have cells called macrophages. The term means ‘big eater’. They are essentially a peculiar form of messianic police. They absorb invaders and display their protein-shell-code on their surface. During this process, they die, but the immune system reads their message in order to develop (and remember) antibodies.

In our cultures, criminals are somewhat analogous to macrophages. Except instead of reading them and tracing down the poisonous processes that produced them (and resolving these process with the crucial information we received from the signalers), we attack them as if they caused what they absorbed from our cultures. Attacking criminals is approximately the single most ignorant response we could make; it actually replicates and concentrates the disease.

If our bodies did this to macrophages, you would instantly explode.

Also, policemen are a bit like antibodies. And when they attack those they were empowered to protect? That’s an effective sign of auto-immune disease. The kind that converts the intelligence of a protector… into a deadly adversary masquerading as a hero. Police misconduct should be traced to its sources and annihilated. Instead, we pretend it isn’t happening and look the other way. Sometimes we actually prosecute the victims!

Again, this choice replicates and concentrates the disease.
