Because of the way most modern humans are trained to approach and utilize their perceptions; that is, transforming them into descriptions and evaluations — they have about as much chance of understanding any ordinary phenomenon — say, an ant — as an eye drawn on paper has of reading the Library of Congress in a ten-second sitting.
