We do not exist as we imagine ourselves. I am not the person that my history and name, experiences, relations and thoughts imply.
It is my sense that -=we call each other into being=-, uniquely in every moment and circumstance. The depth of this realization is profound. The world calls us into being. The moment we are experiencing calls us forth from our inner selves into various (often simultaneous) modes of inhibition or expression. Those we meet and relate with, including inanimate objects and places… each uniquely call us forth from within ourselves. Similarly, we call them into being as well.
This realization interferes with the illusion of the individual, while calling us to a deep awareness of our capacities to radically transform our world and experience. We have the capacity to call each other into entirely new forms and expressions of being, forms far beyond the crude catalog which our cultures prescribe.
Many of us often feel impaired or unable to -=call ourselves forth into being=- with the same intensity that we have experienced with others or within specific experiences. We may desire or expect others to take on this role. Of course, this is somewhat natural and is learned from experience, but it is also deceptive if we do not yet recognize our own capacities to bring forth what we carry within us freely and authentically.
Some practice what we call arts, which, in general, have this feature in common: they catalyze the inward self into expression, enabling us to ‘call ourselves forth’ in this way.
This is a complex topic with many branches and roots. But the beginning is the understanding that we are not the identity we wear, and we are not the stories we tell about it. What we are is happening as a sort of wave of becoming, and it is incredibly sensitive to every domain of relation.
