Our relationships with knowledge, language and technology carry prices we are too modern to understand, let alone concern ourselves with.

Without the deep relationships with place, season, and the myriad living beings (who are the natural extensions of ourselves — as we are of them) we are like Johnny who ‘got his gun’ … and then lost his limbs (all of them), his eyesight, his hearing, his sense of smell, his voice, and his capacity to live as a human person.

Let me be blunt: that’s one expensive gun. What the hell did it emit?
