Insight may take the form of the sudden reconciliation of metaphors from a variety of seemingly distinct domains such as art, music, physics, dreaming, literature, nature, thought, language, and logic.
The result of this reconciliation is a new phase-space in which the fundamental relationship of the mind to metaphor is transformed; the experience is one of ascent from dependence upon metaphors supplied by others to the sudden capacity to freely invent them in ways which, compared to what is ordinarily on offer, appear startling, new, and refreshing. The difference is that of slavery to the metaphors on offer, or liberation to radically rewrite the relationship with metaphor.
Our minds are more important even than our nations. If we cannot have the revolutions of mind that lead us to new domains of human fulfillment and intelligent relation… our other hopes of transformation will fall like seed on steel. Revolutions in human intelligence depend on developing relationships with language, knowledge and representational thought that at once expose the traps and empower us to take far greater advantage of the benefits.
The task before us is a challenging one, it is no less than the comittment to the re-establishment and nurturence of something a lot more like intelligence than what we are currently messing about with. This challenge cannot be shirked: it is, in fact, our long and inexcusable neglect of our relational intelligence which has and continues to play a vast causal role in the epic social and international catastrophes now playing worldwide.
