Powerful cultural factors exist that ‘intelligently’ co-opt and re-deploy nascent cultural movements in their own interests. These have a staggering effect on our capacity to develop our intelligence and creativity. The effect is so overwhelming that few people or groups can evade or manage it adeptly, and thus these factors are only rarely threatened. We actually defend them from attacks mounted by our peers.
