Like the physical maturation of a preying mantis, the inner life of our souls progresses through 7 ‘instars’; a word meaning ‘life phases’. These can be more clearly understood in the visual analogy of ‘a water droplet’ striking a bath of water. During each phase change, the droplet is (briefly) completely unified with the bath, and half the (remaining) droplet remains in unity.
