Bagheera kiplingi: a South American ambush predator who I hope one day to meet in person. Believe me when I tell you, if you want a direct encounter with insect intelligence, go after an ambush predator, the more exotic the better. Ghannan Flower Mantids… Jumping spiders from the jungle… Or Mantis Shrimp from the oceans. Oh, by the way, this spider is -largely vegetarian- (it feeds on Beltian bodies — and has to evade ants to acquire them)… interestingly, similar ants have been found to protect trees from Elephants in sub-Saharan Africa. The Elephants do not like having the delicate undersides of their trunks bitten.
