I have good reason to believe that sucking the right thumb is actually a method of bootstrapping linguistic intelligence. I believe that children who develop this (LI) rapidly will tend to lose this behavior much earlier, and that some who struggle with inhibiting the R-sub-L configuration of the brain will carry this habit much further into their childhood.
