To understand our own awareness I suspect we must understand its genesis and history. To accomplish this seemingly impossible task, we must both be interested and willing to re-experience the profoundly unpredictable, sometimes mystical, frightened, inchoate, and irrational points of view that preceded the largely consistent and coherent expression of recognizeably human consiousness.
