The humans think: the moth is stupid. It’s actually the other way around, the moth is demonstrating your people’s insanity, to you, directly. A similar problem ensues with animals hit by cars. The natural response is to freeze, because no intelligent creature just plows through another animal.

But your people are not intelligent. They are as deprived of intelligence by cars as they are by artificial lights, and machines… in general.

If an animal gets its relationships with »light wrong, and insists upon this… there is nothing whatsoever it can possibly be ‘correct’ about. And this error will magnify itself geometrically over even short spans of linear time.”
