Neuroscientist Friend (NF): “McGilchist is insane. He thinks the left hemisphere is dominating humanity, but it’s the only source of hope for the future. Only science and technology can save us now.”

Me: “Really? I’ve discovered that even insects exhibit clear behavioral evidence of lateralized response to stimuli. For example, houseflies will turn their bodies to the left in the presence of a threat, and to the right in the presence of something of interest, for example, food.”

NF: “As usual, you’re very imaginative. There’s nothing in the literature about that.”

Me: “…” ( Right, obviously the literature tells us what exists, and anything not in there, doesn’t. How grandiose of me to have actually gone and directly observed the behavior of living organisms in person. )

Ten years later, a broad array of studies demonstrate lateralized behavior in insects and even nematodes.
