“But the problem is older than this. Our cultures have been intoxicated by technology for a number of generations now, and none of the promised utopias emerged. Not one. There is a zero success rate for this proposition. What happens instead, generally and almost universally is that technological innovations are ‘captured’ for profit and power-extraction. Invariably, this leaves some 80% of modern humans in at-risk or lethal situations where governments and corporations ( the extremely bad ‘good guys’ compared to the straight-up murderers, criminals etc. ) rip the history and future of civilization to shreds, while eviscerating the environment ( the only hope of a human future rests on avoiding that specific activity ). Every new technology that emerges is a ‘business opportunity’ ( read: lethal weaponization of new kinds of damage to human and biological histories and futures ). Anything that can be physically weaponized for war, is. And what isn’t, gets weaponized by someone willing to skip the formalities of the slightly moral or ethical concerns of those who ‘follow the rules of engagement’.”
