^”I have direct experience of contact with advanced nonhuman intelligences that fit into none of the categories we use to imagine them. It is clear to me that a wide variety of such intelligences exist, and they are directly involved with the origins, natures and activities of our own minds. Without their participation, we would not have bodies or minds.

In fact, we are ’embryonically embedded’ in one of the intelligences I am speaking about. This is the biocognitive hyperstructure that Earth’s ecologies have long comprised. Due to the actual nature of our relationship with this ‘living envelope’ that surrounds our world, damage to this foundation is instantaneously translated into damage in our own species, and our future, in a complex array of ways — most of which are irreversible.

But there are intelligences far older than Earth, and some of them are not embodied in the ways we expect. Rather, they ‘ride’ upon organismal biology, evolution and activity. And they are not bound in linear time. The categories that our languages impose upon identity are too crude to even point in the direction of what I here describe.

Our modern peoples — and, particularly our societies — are staggeringly ignorant of all of these matters, having instead of contact (and thus relation)… narratives, descriptions and exceptionally primitive ideas that lead us into disastrous compulsions and duplicity.

Yet what I want to say is simple: not only are we not the only intelligent lifeform on Earth or in space, and if I casually measure what I know of our natures and ideas against what I have directly experienced, two facts emerge as obvious: we are blind to the actual nature of reality, and… our species is not yet intelligent. In fact, although we have the capacity for intelligence, our common ideas and activities are very nearly its opposites.”
