Today, while reciting the Heart Sutra, I came across a baby turtle, newly emerged from the mud. I must have been the first creature it encountered. It is the first time anything like this has happened to me, too. There were many hazards between it and the waters, some 60 feet away, down a levee and 30 feet of broken cement. I was honored to fulfill its mother’s intentions. I finished the sutra, just as I placed it in the waters. What a privilege to be of such delicate service today.
