Consider the phrase: ‘Don’t take anything I say seriously’. Many of us can parse this in a way that is casual; it doesn’t actually apply to »everything one says, and if it did… it would overtly contradict itself. There are a variety of rather bizarre problems with declarative language, especially if the language is critical (that is: it calls out a problem somehow). In this video I briefly introduce this topic, and a related topic: there’s an aspect of our human mind that deeply resents ‘being told’ things, being instructed, and being subjected to anything that resembles a command (unless we have previously agreed to receive them). These are complex topics that I hope to explore more deeply in upcoming videos.
