A friend and I were speaking last night. Both of us are technology specialists with long pedigrees.

We spoke of the simplest technology that is almost entirely ignored: the one of simply stopping doing something that is blatantly stupid, deadly, cruel, or otherwise egregious.

It requires no tools. No machines. It’s a decisional technology. One simply looks at something (for example: combustion engines), realizes that, in the near or short-term future it will result in catastrophe… and then… stops doing it.

This is the kind of technology we need. The kind that doesn’t invent new domains of damage in every aspect of life on Earth, but instead, puts an end to those now parading around triumphantly as ‘successful’.
