Some of us have seen birds (probably almost all of them are male) attacking their reflection in a mirror. For billions of life-years on Earth, there were neither windows nor mirrors.

While our own consciousness is not precisely a mirror… the analogy is useful to explore situations in which our capacities for memory, imagination, narrative and … reactivity… incline us to experience something quite similar… in and as our own minds.
