Suppose you decided to write something ‘as someone else’. Of course, some authors had a variety of ‘writers’ inside them. Different writers, some capable of commenting on or being aware of the others.

If this is imaginable, take the next step: suppose you lived an interval of time, say, two hours… as an entirely different person. As someone else. As an adventure. You could remove the persona of your familiar self, and emulate the persona of either someone you know, or someone you can imagine. And follow »their intuitions, purposes, ideas and concerns.

Can you imagine what a relief it would be to liberated, however momentarily, from the constricting domination of the personas we identify with? Even for a moment, to be able to take off… the whole layered mess, set it aside… and be… someone at once »new to you… and yet…

Now if you can play in these ways, deeply and creatively, hearfully … with sensitivity… if you can practice this… eventually, you might be able to spend a day as a walking tree. Or a walking bird. You might be able to spend a day as a cloud. Or maybe even a river…

But once you experience the freedom outside our commonly practiced and familiar habits of self… you may still put your old persona back on… but you’ll finally be aware that this was never the only option. Your minds and spirits… are made… for »beyond.
