On Damage to the Human Intuition of »Kinds.
There’s an array of fundamental problems with our relationships with categories… in thought and language.
Children are made of the solution, and adults sense this intuitively, but cannot recognize it. The structure of their mental behavior renders it extremely difficult to surface either the problem or the solutions in consciousness.
But the children can sense… that the adults… are »broken, even if they cannot say precisely how. The properties of the damage in the adults are as confusing to them as the appearance of antidotes in the children are to the adults.
I turns out that the specific cuts one makes in Unity to produce the categories… declare the modes and kinds of »distance : »opportunity that emerge from this activity. This aspect of consciousness forms the fundamental awareness of and thought about »kinds.
We are trained to perform this most fundamental of mental orientations in but the most crude and lethal of ways. And the more simple this error, the more blinding and prone to repetition it becomes over time.
And that is something like what happened. The originary elements in the tree of meaning, the tree of categories, underwent a process that a both damaged them further and hid this damage better, as consciousness and toolmaking developed.
In human thought and awareness, the roots of meaning and identity… are severely damaged. The are missing crucial aspects of linkage, lineage, mode, and other dimensionalities, some of which are necessarily ‘irrational’.
But there’s a way to use the blade with which we make this cut, that results in the opposite of distance. This means our species has gotten the root of meaning wrong: »identity is not declared, it is derived. And the purposes that drive this process determine the resulting … modes of unity and distinction.
And there’s something in our minds… like the opposite of the blade with which we were trained to make, repeat, excuse or deny this mistake…
