In Re: Why is America the only country protesting the lockdown?
Firstly: It isn’t (See Rene Renée Martel’s comment), but the situation here is definitely both unique… and bizarre…
“Part of the problem is in the lie within the language:
Lockdown is something that happens in prisons.
No one in America is locked down.
What we have are shelter-in-place guidelines.
That’s not a lockdown. At all.
But those who wish to foment anger, outrage and hatred… among those ignorant enough to participate in such a bizarre charade…
… can use both language and media to their advantage, by spinning it to cater to the weaknesses and vulnerabilities of people too poorly educated to understand the meaning of liberty, let alone ‘protect’ it.
And there has, for too long, been a narrative of Us and Them that breeds the delusion of a dichotomy that doesn’t exist.
Our media, particularly the right-wing media, has created this illusion on purpose… because, without it, people might gain insight into the actual nature of our situation… or perhaps realize that the ‘enemy’ is the corporate elites, who are enslaving the majority of workers, and both sequestering wealth and dumping it endlessly into the prison-military-industrial complex. For that to continue, these divisions and delusions must be perpetuated. And amplified. Preferably to such a degree as to ‘justify’ the imposition of either martial law or fascist rule. Maybe both.”
