Narratives are involved in the processes of attentional priming, and these not only contribute to memory, they prefigure the forms and narratological preferences that underlie our conscious experience of both memory and identity (what things are/do).

This it is that »all ‘news’ manages to prefigure not merely what we will remember (and the purposive underpinnings of memory itself!), but what we will pay attention to (and for which purposes we shall do so).
