I speak at length about the importance of paying more attention to the tiniest forms of life… because small has a meaning … in TIME that humans have, so far, been largely unequipped to pay attention to.
I can explain this in conversation… but not in a brief text. Let it suffice to say that each organism is a bubble of unique time. And there are ~20 trillion bacteria in you… and at their size, time passes at a shockingly faster rate… and viruses are vastly smaller and staggeringly more numerous (~380 trillion in a human being).
If a human hour is a week for a bacteria, it’s something like a month for a virus… so, in your body, 52 hours is a year for a single bacteria (and 20 trillion years for the population inside you)… do the math for the viruses?
The thing is this: organisms make time like stars make light… but the smaller ones… make vastly »more…
