Someday we, too, will be so bold….

“So this big dump truck showed up, and began, with loud mechanical demonstrations, to park. It so happened that two crows were perched above it, on a telephone wire. The one on the left according to their own facing made quite a show of making excrement on the truck below. It then flew off. The remaining bird was more bold, however; once it was sure the truck was still, it flew down into the street some twenty feet off, and began, in fits, to advance upon the truck, as if to measure or even menace it. The bird was extremely aware, and when, half a block away, a bus passed, it was clear that the crow counted this a possible ally of the truck, and balked for a moment. Similarly, when the wind threatened to simply blow it right off the pavement, it danced, turning expertly into the flow like a bullet, until the gust had passed. It was astonishing to see this display, which surely had something to do with the crow facing down the giant machine on its own level—from the ground.”
