∞ “The stories we have been told that describe our nature and abilities are catastrophically misfounded; we have been deprived almost entirely of any aspect of relation with the purposive spirit of our origins and living world. In place of these, stark authorities erect grandiose metaphysical fictions or produce elaborate formulae describing abstract, disembodied laws. In such a context, our natural proclivities are easily misdirected, and can be made to attack themselves, producing chaos and despair.
And yet even in such bedlam there is opportunity, for many of the finest foundations of our actual nature and humanity require an urgently meaningful purpose in order to emerge into our awareness, where they become action. Where we compose our lives as active agents, rather than passive, spectating, analysts of norms and other ephemera. Our experiment fairly demands that our ceaseless exposure to and dependence on machines give way to the recovery and recognition of their precursors in our experience and conceptions of the world and our humanity. And, so, too… must our relationships with language and knowledge undergo such reformations as are natural when we discover and remember their origins.”
