“Where is this Tree?”

“There is nowhere it is not, you used it to form that question in your mind, and to speak the words you framed it with.”

“How can I see it?”

“Eyes and hands cannot find it; it is ‘seen’ only in the heart, and only with the purposes that are alike with its true nature.”

“Then it is not a tree.”

“Yes, the idea of a tree is alike with its nature and extent, but only to a degree… there is nothing that is not its roots and branches, leaves and flowers… but it does not ‘exist’ in the senses we ordinarily associate with these words.”

“If it does not exist, then is it real?”

“What we conceive of as real is neither real nor unreal; the fact that we can conceive of anything is the activity of and relation with the Tree.”

“I don’t understand.”

“That’s a good start. If only that were complete, you would surpass understanding, and then, perhaps, you and the tree would be always together.”
