“We don’t yet know what Earth is. We have no proper category for such a phenomenon, neither do we understand stars. What we can say, with relative certainty is this: there are no ‘parts’. The idea of parts is a convenience of analysis, and when this is forgotten, disasters ensue.

We can also understand something far more crucial to our humanity and its possible future: damage to the ecologies of Earth lands in every human body and mind… not merely in a cause/effect relationship, but instantaneously. This is due to the fact that whatever Earth may be, it is a unity, first.

Therefore, what happens to the plants, animals and living places of Earth, happens to all of us… individually and collectively. Damage to ecologies damages our minds and bodies, and deprives us of aspects of our humanity that have been long forgotten, denied by science, and essentially lied about for many generations.

For this reason homo sapiens must divorce itself from the fictions that we have raised above Nature… and must, if we are to survive, return to direct relation with and exploration of these potentials. We must retrieve them from the crypts of ‘knowledge’ in which they have for so long been interred.”
