The problem is that Earth was too safe, too rich, too intelligent, and overwhelmingly alive. The problem is that in terms of planets in space, resources, and potentials… we had far too much… long before we developed anything resembling the awareness of how precious and priceless our own world is.

That problem is about to go away, along with most of the anciently conserved ecologies. Perhaps forever…
