Much of our common thought, expectation and activity is senseless, and based upon suppositions and inferences that, when carefully examined, are either wrong, absurd, or baseless. For this reason I assert that modern peoples are at least as ‘superstitious’ as ancient or indigenous peoples. The difference is that our superstitions are conceptual, rather than mystical.
