“In ancient Greece, there were sects that taught the proper navigation of the rivers of the underworld: Hate, Sorrow, Lamentation, Fire, and Oblivion (lethe).

At least one such tradition hinted at a sixth, Mnemosyne, whose waters conferred upon their recipient a kind of living knowledge that resists even death and transformation; the waters of omniscience.

They apparently taught their adherents to recognize, locate, and drink from this hidden river during the purported ordeals that follow death.

But what is lost to us is a more startling fact: its waters are available to the living, and whilst alive, one’s chance and hope of attaining them are far more favorable than in the domains of The Between. In fact, our minds themselves participate directly in this river of the underworld.”
